WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's tennis fell to Illinois 6-1 on Saturday in the Big Ten opener at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The Boilermakers' No. 77 doubles team of Silvia Ambrosio and Amina Mukhametshina defeated Jaclyn Switkes and Sasha Belaya 6-4. The duo now is 7-1 in finished doubles matches.
Ena Babic defeated Switkes at the No. 2 singles spot 6-1, 6-0.
Seira Shimizu won her first set against Mia Rabinowitz 6-4 before falling 0-6, 3-6.
Zala Dovnik won her first set against Dani Pedraze Novak 6-3 before losing 4-6, 2-6.
The Boilermakers (5-7) are back in action Sunday at Schwartz at noon ET.
