IOWA CITY, Iowa
– Brandon Loschiavo repeated as the conference champion in platform diving, sharing the podium with bronze medalist Ben Bramley as Purdue swimming & diving closed out the Big Ten Championships with another host of strong showings.

The Boilermakers finished fourth in the team scoring with 744.5 points, taking fourth for the second year in a row and third time in the last five years. That matches the program's best-ever showing at Big Tens. During the modern era of the meet, Purdue's 2009 and 2010 teams were the only others to finish fourth in consecutive years.

Seniors Joe Young (1:41.93) and Tim Barth (1:42.37) both eclipsed Young's program record (1:42.56) in the 200 backstroke while qualifying for the A final of the event. Young finished the day as the record holder again.

The Boilermakers closed the meet with a program record in the 400 freestyle relay (2:52.19). They eclipsed six team benchmarks over the course of the meet – three individual records and three relay records. Nikola Acin also established Purdue freshman records in the 50, 100 and 200 free.

Loschiavo was victorious with a list score of 502.30, improving on his prelim score by 43.5 points. Three of his first four dives in the final earned scores of 90-plus points as he pulled away early and eventually won gold by 59.7 points.

Loschiavo joined David Boudia as Purdue divers to repeat as a conference champion in the same event. Steele Johnson (2016) and Loschiavo have teamed up to win the last three Big Ten titles in the event. Dating back to 2009, the Boilermakers have won six platform championships and 13 Big Ten diving titles overall. Loschiavo was a first-team All-Big Ten honoree while becoming the first man since Indiana's Conor Murphy (2013-14) to be a repeat champion on the tower.

Bramley claimed bronze on the platform after also winning the preliminary round with the fourth-highest score (472.15) in program history. He was victorious in Friday's 3-meter consolation final as well while scoring in all three diving events as a freshman. Greg Duncan and Bramley teamed up to give Purdue a sweep of the bronze medals in the three diving events. Joe Cifelli also scored in all three diving events while competing on the platforms for the first time since 2016.

Moments before Barth and Young represented Purdue in the A final of the 200 back, Kiki Komlenic won the C final with a career-best time of 1:43.20. That trio accounted for three fastest times in program history all in the same day.

Acin (43.09, 3rd), Nikola Bjelajac (43.27, 4th) and James Boone (43.61, 9th) all broke 44 seconds in the 100 free, climbing the Purdue all-time top 10 in the event. They also comprised three-quarters of the record-setting 400 free relay team, joining forces with Ryan Lawrence, who also had a career best (44.29, 13th) in the 100 Saturday.

Seniors Grant Lewis (1:45.88) and Erik Juliusson (1:46.03) also posted career bests in the prelims of the 200 butterfly, moving up to fourth and fifth place in program history. They were B finalists in the event.

Trent Pellini moved into fourth place in program history in the 200 breaststroke (1:56.67) as a B finalist, joining Acin, Juliusson and Young as Purdue swimmers to score in three different individual events. Those four along with Boone each contributed to two of the three relay records.

Selected Boilermakers may choose to race next weekend at the Ohio State Last Ditch time trial meet. NCAA Championships qualifiers in the swimming events are likely to be announced March 13. The divers will focus on training for the Zone C Championships (March 14-16), which serves as their NCAAs qualifier and is being held at Purdue this season.
