Boilermakers Dominate Savannah in Diamond 9 Citrus Classic Finale

ORLANDO, Fla. - Behind two home runs by senior Jenny Behan, Purdue softball continued its offensive surge by defeating Savannah State 10-1 in six innings on the final day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic. The Boilermakers improve to 11-6 on the year, including a 4-1 showing on the weekend.

The offense put together 12 hits on the day with only one error. Freshman Rachel Becker went 3-for-4, while Behan guided the team with a game-best five RBI.

Freshman Alex Echazarretta secured the win in the circle with 3.0 innings pitched. Freshman Brenna Smith and senior Maddie Damon saw action in relief, combining for six strike outs.

Sophomore Ryleigh Scott got the scoring going with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the second, scoring freshman Kendall Chase, who reached on a fielder's choice.

In the top of the third inning, Becker singled to left field, while a home run from Behan collected the runs and pushed Purdue to a 3-0 edge.

The Boilermakers exploded for five runs on five  hits in the top of the fourth as Purdue pushed to an 8-0 advantage.  Sophomore Rachel Krzysko got the bats going with a single to left field, while Scott and Becker each followed with singles. With runners on the corners, Behan cashed in with her second home run of the game.

A pair of Boilermaker miscues allowed the Tigers to put up a run in the bottom of the fourth, before Purdue tacked on two more runs for a final score of 10-1.

Purdue returns to Florida next weekend for the FAU/FIU Parent's Weekend Tournament.
