AUSTIN, Texas
– Purdue's Emily Meaney improved on her prelim score by 60 points, finishing as the runner-up in the platform diving championship final to win silver on the final day of the NCAA Championships.

Meaney earned her second career All-America honor. She was also a championship finalist on the platform as a freshman in 2017. The Australian posted the top showing by a Purdue woman at the national championship meet since Casey Matthews won the 3-meter diving title in 2013.

Emily Bretscher finished 10th nationally in a diving event for the second time this week. She was the runner-up in the platform consolation final, earning another honorable mention All-America award.

Meaney and Bretscher accounted for 31 team points at NCAAs, helping the Boilermakers finish 26th in the team scoring.

Meaney earned a score of 67.20 on her last dive of the prelim to clinch the final berth in the championship final. Three of her five dives in the prelim produced scores that were among the top five of the 44-diver field.

Despite going first in the dive over in the championship final, Meaney's consistency put her in position to medal. She scored no fewer than 67 points on any of her last four dives of the final. Consecutive scores of 72 in rounds 2 and 3 keyed her 60-point improvement in the list score, which rose from 275.70 in the prelim to 336.15 in the final.

Bretscher also improved on her prelim score (264.4) in the final (267.00). The sophomore became Purdue's first female diver to be an All-American in multiple events at NCAAs in the same year since Mary Beth Dunnichay in 2016.

Jinq En Phee posted team season-best times in both breaststroke events this weekend. She broke one minute in the 100 breast (59.92) at NCAAs for the second year in a row. In the 200 breast, she registered a mark of 2:11.28 to improve on her third-fastest time in program history.

Seniors Taite Kitchel and Morgan Meixner closed out their accomplished college careers this weekend while competing at NCAAs for the third year in a row. Kitchel raced in the 100 and 200 butterfly while Meixner competed in the springboard diving events. Kitchel will graduate this year as Purdue's program record holder in both butterfly events as well as the 200 and 400 medley relays.

Maggie Merriman finished 25th among the 44-diver field on the platforms in her debut at the NCAA Championships.

Bretscher, Meaney, Merriman and Phee will headline the Boilermakers' returning letterwinners for the 2019-20 season.
