WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
– Kyle Wade worked six innings of one-run relief and Purdue baseball scored in four of the first five innings to defeat Bowling Green 9-2 Wednesday at Alexander Field.

Wade (1-1) retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced to earn his first collegiate win. The freshman teamed up with Matt Moore and Bo Hofstra to post six consecutive zeros to close out the victory, retiring 19 of the final 21 BGSU (4-12) batters. Purdue pitchers did not issue a walk Wednesday.

Meanwhile, after scoring in just one of their last 39 innings entering the day, the Boilermakers (5-15) opened up an early lead by scoring multiple runs in three of the first four frames. Purdue's leadoff man reached base safely six times, coming around to score four times over the first five innings.

Skyler Hunter recorded hits from both sides of the plate for the second time in the last three games and 15th time as a Boilermaker. He opened the game for Purdue with an opposite-field triple into the right field corner. As a left-handed hitter, he later ripped a line drive off the pitcher's foot and into short right center field. The junior scored all three times he was aboard Wednesday.

Cole McKenzie singled three times to extended his team-long reached base safely streak to 14 consecutive games. Charlie Nasuti delivered a pair of RBI singles and scored twice as Purdue's No. 2 hitter before being replaced in left field by Milo Beam, who walked and recorded an RBI single in his two trips to the dish. Hunter, Nasuti, Beam and McKenzie teamed up to make the 1-2-3 portion of the lineup 8-for-13 with two walks, four RBI and six runs scored.

Ryan Howe and Evan Albrecht each successfully executed a squeeze bunt. Both freshmen put together three productive plate appearances. Owen Jansen followed Howe's squeeze bunt in the third inning with a two-out RBI double.

Wade worked 1-2-3 innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth. He struck out the final batter of a frame twice over his first three innings, finishing the day with 5 Ks. Wade replaced starter James Kulak after one inning. It was a planned abbreviated outing for Kulak in the lefty's first appearance since the season-opening weekend.

Nick Evarts made his first start as a Boilermaker at first base and has now seen action at all four around the horn infield positions this season. McKenzie was in right field Wednesday. He has started games in all three outfield positions this month.

Purdue opens Big Ten play this weekend at Northwestern. First pitch Friday in Evanston is slated for 4 p.m. ET.
