WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Six Boilermakers will represent Purdue women's swimming & diving in a combined seven events this week on the national stage as the University of Texas hosts the NCAA Championships.

The meet begins Wednesday with the 800 freestyle relay and continues through Saturday night at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, which is also serving as the host pool of the Men's NCAA Championships next week. The individual events begin with Thursday's prelims. Swimming prelims begin daily at 10 a.m. ET. Diving prelims begin during the noon hour (ET). Finals sessions get underway at 6 p.m.

The Boilermakers qualified three student-athletes for all three events in diving well. In November, Purdue competed in Austin for the Texas Hall of Fame Diving Invitational.

ESPNU and ESPN's streaming apps will provide live television coverage of the finals sessions Friday and Saturday. Thursday finals are on ESPN3. TexasSports.com is offering free webcasts of the remaining sessions, including the diving prelims.

WHO'S COMPETING FOR PURDUE
Emily Bretscher, Taite Kitchel, Emily Meaney, Morgan Meixner, Maggie Merriman and Jinq En Phee qualified for NCAAs this year. Kitchel, Meaney and Meixner all qualified for the third time. Bretscher and Phee are back for the second year in a row. Merriman qualified as a freshman, marking the the fourth year in a row Purdue had a freshman diver qualify. Prior to 2016, that had not happened since 2009.
Bretscher and Meaney earned bids at national championship meet in all three diving events, Purdue's first divers to accomplish the feat since Mary Beth Dunnichay in 2015.
Kitchel did the same in three different swimming events. However, because the 100 butterfly and 400 IM are both on Friday, Kitchel will focus on 100 fly, an event in which she holds the program record.
The Boilermakers have had at least four diving qualifiers at the women's meet each of the last three years.

RECENT ALL-AMERICA HISTORY
Purdue has had at least one women's diver earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in 14 of the last 15 years.
In her debut at NCAAs last season, Phee qualified for the championship final of the 100 breaststroke. The Olympian broke one minute in the event again to earn All-America honors.
Meaney was a championship finalist in platform diving as a freshman in 2017, finishing seventh to earn All-America honors.
Meixner finished among the top 20 in both springboard events at NCAAs last year, earning honorable mention All-America accolades on 1-meter. Bretscher placed 17th in the platform prelims last season, finishing just one spot shy of qualifying for the consolation final and earning honorable mention All-America acclaim.
Finishing among the top 16 in the prelims is what assures an athlete of All-America honors. The top eight compete for the national title in the championship final. Ninth to 16th place in the prelims advance to the consolation final and earn honorable mention All-America accolades.
The Boilermakers finished 19th in the team scoring last season, their best finish since also placing 19th in 2013. Purdue has finished in the top 25 at NCAAs 11 times since 2005.

The Purdue men will be represented by nine student-athletes at the NCAA Championships next week in Austin. Swimmers Nikola Acin, James Boone, Erik Juliusson, Trent Pellini and Joe Young along with divers Ben Bramley, Joe Cifelli, Greg Duncan and Brandon Loschiavo all qualified.
