Putri, Boilers Earn Second-Place Showings at Augusta

The Purdue women's golf team wrapped up its third top-two performance in as many appearances at the Valspar Augusta Invitational on Sunday, finishing with runner-up honors at even-par 864 at Forest Hills Golf Course. Senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri led the Boilermakers with a second-place finish on the individual leaderboard, marking the best tournament finish of her collegiate career as she shot five-under 211, including a final-round 73.
 
Putri was back-and-forth in the final round, trading birdies for bogeys throughout her day, including three of each on the back nine as she wrapped up her third top-10 showing of the season and sixth of her career. Freshman Danielle du Toit matched her on the scorecards Sunday at one-over 73 and finished tied for fifth place at even-par 216 for the tournament.
 
Sophomore Inez Wanamarta shot two-over 74 and junior Micaela Farah finished four-over 76 to register the final two team scores on Sunday for Purdue, shooting five-over par and six-over par, respectively, for the tournament. Despite a final-round 77 on Sunday, freshman RuQing Guan tied for 12th individually to mark her best collegiate tournament finish and second top-20 performance of the season.
 
The Boilermakers entered Sunday six strokes behind first-place Texas Tech and tried to reel in the Red Raiders all day, pulling as close as two strokes during the final round, but unable to close the gap as they took home the team title at four-under 860. Sofia Garcia was red-hot for the Red Raiders down the stretch, playing the final nine holes at five-under par to secure medalist honors at seven-under 209.
 
Purdue returns to action in three weeks, heading to the Clemson Invitational on April 7 at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, South Carolina.
