WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Five more top-seven finishes on the tower Saturday at the Zone C Diving Championships punctuated a week in which all eight active Purdue divers qualified for the NCAA Championships.
For the third year in a row, all of the Boilermakers' divers that competed at Zone qualified for NCAAs. They combined for 16 event bids at the national championship meets.
Emily Bretscher and Emily Meaney qualified for the NCAA Championships in all three diving events this week. They finished 2-3 on the tower Saturday.
Two-time Big Ten champion Brandon Loschiavo was victorious on the platform once again. He over the two lists of competition, he outscored all non-Boilermakers by 220 points.
Freshmen Ben Bramley and Maggie Merriman joined Loschiavo in earning their bids at NCAAs on Saturday. Bramley finished second to Loschiavo and also earned a 3-meter berth at NCAAs in the process. Merriman took seventh on 10-meter to clinch her bid.
Loschicavo, Bretscher, Meaney and Merriman all improved on their prelim scores in the final. Meaney's 50.8-point improvement from the prelim to the final was the best of the bunch.
The Purdue women will be represented by six student-athletes at the NCAA Championships, with swimmers Taite Kitchel and Jinq En Phee joining Morgan Meixner, Bretscher, Meaney and Merriman. Nine men will represent the Boilermakers at NCAAs the following week. Swimmers Trent Pellini, Nikola Acin, James Boone, Erik Juliusson and Joe Young will join Joe Cifelli, Greg Duncan, Bramley and Loschiavo. The men's nine qualifiers are their most since 2015.
The University of Texas is hosting both the Men's and Women's NCAA Championships. The women's meet is March 20 to 23 and the men's is the following week, March 27 to 30.
