CLEARWATER, FLA. – The Purdue softball team added one more win to its season as the Boilermakers bounced back from a 3-0 loss to North Dakota State with a dominating 7-0 victory against Seton Hall on Saturday.

The pair of games concluded the USF-Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Spring Invitational and saw Purdue improve to 20-9 overall.  With the win over the Pirates, the Boilermakers claim 20 wins for the first time since 2017, when Purdue went 20-36 overall.

NDSU 3, Purdue 0
It was a pitching duel in the first game of the day, with neither team plating a run until the seventh inning, when the Bison broke the scoreless tie with three runs.

After a leadoff single, followed by sacrifice bunt to put a runner at second, the Boilermakers looked to get out of the inning unscathed with back-to-back outs. NDSU then put two runners on, before a triple to right center from Katie Shoultz pushed two runs across. The Bison then added a third tally on an RBI single.

The Boilermakers looked to answer back in the bottom of the inning, but would only put up a single hit from freshman Kasey Wilhoit.

Despite a strong outing, senior Kaitlynn Moody took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out six in a complete game effort.

It was a quick start for the Boilermakers as an RBI double from senior Jenny Behan put Purdue on the board in the opening frame.

The Boilermakers extended their lead in the top of the second with three more singles, including a two-RBI single to left field by senior Mallory Baker.

Leading 3-0, Purdue capitalized on a Pirate miscue to plate three more runs, before senior Lexi Huffman sent a solo home run over the left field fence in the top of the fourth.

Neither team scored in the remaining three innings, solidifying a 7-0 victory for the Boilermakers.

Overall, Purdue outhit Seton Hall 8-3, with Behan and freshman Kasey Wilhoit both going 2-for-4 at the plate. Baker topped the Boilermakers with two RBI.

Redshirt sophomore Sydney Bates advanced to 7-3 in the circle, limiting the Pirates to zero runs on three hits, while striking out 10 batters over six innings. Freshman Brenna Smith concluded the game for the Boilermakers, fanning one batter in her frame.
