BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Purdue softball team concluded play at the FAU & FIU Parent's Weekend Tournament with a commanding 8-0 five-inning win over Illinois State, after falling to host FAU, 4-0, in its fifth game of the weekend on Sunday.
The Boilermakers' loss to the Owls snapped an eight-game winning streak, Purdue's best stretch since going 9-0 in 2015. With the contests, Purdue moves to 16-7 overall.
FAU 4, Purdue 0
With three scoreless frames to start the day, FAU (12-11) was able to take a 2-0 lead with an RBI double to left center and single up the right side from Mia Olson and Lauren Whitt, respectively.
The Owls tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as they loaded the bases with a double to left field, a walk and a single down the left field line. Following a Purdue pitching change, FAU took advantage of a passed ball to score its third run of the game. The home team followed up with an RBI sacrifice to right field for its final run.
Purdue tallied only three hits in contest, but could do no further damage as FAU claimed the win, 4-0.
Senior Mallory Baker recorded two of Purdue's hits in the game in the fourth and sixth frame, respectively.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Boilermakers began with a bases-loaded situation as freshman Rachel Becker and senior Jenny Behan walked, while senior Mallory Baker singled up the middle. Freshman Kasey Wilhoit capitalized with a triple to center left field allowing all three of her teammates to score, giving Purdue a 3-0 lead. Junior Madison Douglass added to Purdue's run count with a double up the middle to score Wilhoit for a 4-0 Boilermaker edge.
Purdue kept its momentum going into the second inning, scoring on a Behan single to right field and a miscue by Illinois State's center fielder, for a 7-0 advantage.
The Boilermakers entered the fifth inning with a 7-0 lead, and after a walk-off home run from Wilhoit, Purdue claimed the five-inning win, 8-0.
Overall, Purdue tallied seven hits from four different Boilermakers. Wilhoit and Baker guided the squad as they both went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Defensively, the Boilermakers played perfect, limiting Illinois State (6-20) to only three hits and retiring the Redbirds in order through the first three innings.
Senior Kaitlynn Moody (5-2) claimed her fifth victory on the season with the shutout, finishing with two strikeouts in the circle.
The Boilermakers continue their spring break excursion with a midweek game against St. Joseph's on Wednesday, March 13. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. ET in Tampa.
