With a fantastic final round from sophomore Inez Wanamarta the Purdue women's golf team wrapped up a second-place finish at the University of Houston's Icon Invitational, shooting three-over par, 291, Tuesday at The Woodlands Country Club. Wanamarta sunk five birdies on her way to a four-under 68 and was one-of-two Boilermakers to finish in the individual top-10 for the tournament.
 
The Boilermakers wrapped up the second round to start off Tuesday, finishing at 12-over par, 300, and heading into the final 18 holes one stroke behind tournament host Houston. Senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri had Purdue's top score for the second round at one-over 73, while Wanamarta was just behind her at two-over 74.
 
After making birdie on her second-to-last hole of Round 2, Wanamarta carried her momentum into the final trip around The Woodlands, making birdie on three of her first eight holes and taking advantage of both par 5's on the front side to post her top 18-hole score of the season. Wanamarta finished even-par 216 for the tournament and tied for sixth place, marking her first top-10 effort of the season and fourth of her career.
 
Putri shot two-over 74 in the final round to finish one-under 215 and place fifth, individually. After making bogey on four of her first 11 holes she shot two under the rest of the way, including a key birdie on No. 4 to secure the Boilermakers' team finish.
 
Junior Micaela Farah posted her second even-par round of the tournament Tuesday, making birdie on three of the first four holes on the back-nine, and tied for 11th at three-over 219. Senior Covadonga SanJuan had the final team score in the third round, shooting five-over 77.
 
Houston captured the team title for their home event, shooting two-under 286 in the second round and one-over 289 in the final round to finish eight-over par for the tournament. Purdue edged out No. 9 Kent State, which was third at 12-over par despite a scorching final round of eight-under 280, and No. 20 TCU, which was fourth at 13-over par. Clemson's Alice Hewson took home medalist honors at nine-under par, 207, shooting three-under 69 in the final round.
 
Purdue is off next week and returns to action March 11, heading to Arizona for the Wildcat Invitational at Sewailo Golf Course in Tucson.
