BLOOMINGTON, Ind.
– Emily Meaney repeated as the bronze medalist in platform diving and Jackie Smailis eclipsed the program record in the 200 backstroke, highlighting the final day of the Big Ten Championships for Purdue women's swimming & diving.

The Boilermakers finished sixth in the team scoring, racking up 596.5 points. With Meaney, Emily Bretscher and Maggie Merriman all placing among the top 10 in platform diving, it was Purdue's top scoring event (69 points) of the meet.

Meaney finished third behind NCAA champions Jessica Parratto (Indiana) and Olivia Rosendahl (Northwestern). Meaney improved on her prelim score (326.05) by 26.35 points in the final (352.85). She remains the only woman in Purdue history to exceed 350 points on a 10-meter list.

Bretscher (311.55) took fifth in the championship final, her second top-five finish of the week. Maggie Merriman (283.75) was the runner-up in the consolation final, good for 10th overall. They joined Meaney in posting season-best scores.

Smailis (1:54.61) shattered Allie Smith's record (1:55.72) in the 200 back that had stood since 2010, making it the longest-standing benchmark in the record book. Smailis qualified for the A final, a feat she accomplished in both backstroke events this week.

Natalie Myers capped her big week with a career-best time of 1:57.76 in the 200 back, moving into fifth place in program history. She scored in the C final of the event.

Taite Kitchel won B final of the 200 fly after eclipsing the program record in the 100 fly Friday. Jinq En Phee (2:11.81 in 200 breast) and Danielle Auckley (49.80 in 100 free) also scored in B finals while posting team season-best times.

Auckley and Smailis teamed with Gretta DeCoursey and Maizie Seidl on Purdue's 400 freestyle relay team. The quartet's time of 3:19.42 was good for eighth in program history.

Individually, DeCoursey scored in the C final of the 100. Seidl was recognized as Purdue's Big Ten sportsmanship honoree.

Evan King (200 fly) and Emily Meckstroth (1,650 free) also scored for the Boilermakers Saturday.

Selected Purdue swimmers will race again Saturday, March 2 at the annual Boiler-Make-It NCAA Last Chance meet. Swimming qualifiers for the NCAA Championships will be announced March 6. The divers will shift their focus to the Zone C Championships, which the Boilermakers are hosting this year the weekend of March 14 to 16. Zones serves as the NCAAs qualifier for the divers.
