RIO GRANDE, P.R. -
The Purdue women's golf team placed seventh at the 17th-annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday, finishing ahead of four top-50 ranked squads and turning in their top team performance at the event since 2015. The Boilermakers shot 11-over par, 299, in the final round, despite a round of even-par 72 from senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri, who finished tied for 27th individually.

The Boilermakers came out of the gates at a solid pace, getting birdies from Putri and fellow senior Covadonga SanJuan and sitting at even par after the first few holes. Holes No. 6 through 9 were unkind to Purdue on Tuesday as the five players combined to make only seven pars with no birdies and took a hard hit to the team scorecard.

Things rebounded on the back nine as Putri made three straight birdies, while sophomore Inez Wanamarta got two strokes back on No. 11 and No. 13 and SanJuan and freshman Danielle du Toit each recovered a stroke. The Boilermaker rookie shaved two more strokes on No. 16 and No. 17 to play two under on the back nine and finish with a final-round, two-over 74, and tie for 24th place at six-over par for the tournament.

Wanamarta matched du Toit's 74 in the final round, while SanJuan offered up the final team score Tuesday at seven-over par, 79.

Kent State captured the team title, posting the second-best 54-hole team score in tournament history at two-over 866, outlasting defending-champion Arkansas, which was second at six-over 870. Kent State's Karoline Stormo and East Carolina's Dorthea Forbrigd shot matching three-under 69's in the final round to share medalist honors and tie for the third-best 54-hole score in Lady Puerto Rico Classic history at seven-under 209.

The Boilermakers are off next weekend, returning to action Feb. 25 at the University of Houston's Icon Invitational at The Woodlands Country Club.
