WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
– Six Boilermakers are in Atlanta this week to compete among the nation's best at the USA Diving Winter Trials.

Purdue will be represented in the individual events at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center. Ben Bramley, Emily Bretscher, Joe Cifelli, Greg Duncan and Brandon Loschiavo are slated to compete. Events are scheduled to run simultaneously Wednesday through Friday, with prelims at 10 a.m. ET and finals at 4 p.m. The top 12 in the prelims qualify for finals.

Alumnus David Boudia is also competing on 3-meter this week. Last month, he won silver on 3-meter at the FINA Gold Coast Grand Prix meet in Australia. It was his first competition since winning a pair of 10-meter medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Boudia has not competed at a USA Diving Winter Nationals meet since winning synchronized 10-meter with Steele Johnson in 2015. His last individual event at Winter Nationals was in 2013, winning on both 3-meter and synchronized 3-meter. Boudia has won 20 USA Diving national championships during his illustrious career.

The USA Diving Winter Nationals were renamed as the Winter Trials this year. The results this week will be paramount in selecting divers for the 2019 World University Games in Italy as well as selected FINA Grand Prix meets.

Purdue All-Americans Lexi Vincent and Johnson are not competing this week as they continue to recover from surgical procedures earlier this semester. Johnson has won six career titles at Winter Nationals during his career.

Brandon Loschiavo and Johnson won a national title together at the McAuley Aquatic Center in April 2017 when they were victorious in 10-meter synchro at the USA Diving Synchronized National Championships. Loschiavo will focus on the tower this week, competing in the event Friday. He has not competed on 10-meter at Winter Nationals since 2014 when, as a high school junior, he finished as the runner-up to Johnson in the event.

Loschiavo's winning score of 508.85 on 10-meter at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge (Nov. 10-11) remains tops nationally among collegiate divers this season. He was also victorious a week later at the prestigious Texas Hall of Fame Diving Invitational. The University of Miami's David Dinsmore is also entered in the event this week. Dinsmore and Loschiavo finished 1-2 on 10-meter at the USA Diving National Championships in May, earning bids to the FINA Diving World Cup in the process. Even though Miami had divers in attendance at both the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and Texas Hall of Fame Invite last month, Dinsmore was not among them.

Bretscher, Cifelli and Duncan are slated to compete in both springboard events this week. Bramley will join Loschiavo in the 10-meter event.

Cifelli was the only Boilermaker that opted to dive at Winter Nationals last year, winning silver in synchronized 3-meter and qualifying for the finals of both individual springboard events.

Even though this will be their first Winter Nationals as Boilermakers, Bramley, Bretscher and Duncan are all veterans of the annual national meet. Bramley has finished among the top five on 10-meter each of the last three years.
