WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Five event victories along with four additional heat wins helped the Purdue swimming & diving teams each post a split in their Friday matinee triple dual with Tennessee and Wisconsin at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
The Boilermakers were victorious against the Badgers, but came up short against the Volunteers.
Knoxville native Emily Bretscher impressed with a sweep of the springboard diving events, posting team season-best scores on both 1-meter (304.75) and 3-meter (362.85). She and Morgan Meixner finished 1-2 in both events. Bretscher moved up to eighth place in program history with her career-best score on 3-meter.
Erik Juliusson (200 IM), Emily Meckstroth (1,000 free) and Jinq En Phee (100 breast) also won events. Megan Johnson (200 free), Courtney Kresl (50 free), Ryan Lawrence (50 free) and Nick McDowell (200 fly) added heat victories. Johnson and McDowell joined Meixner and Phee as Boilermakers to post a runner-up finish.
Juliusson (1:50.20) and Phee (1:01.39) won their races with Purdue season-best times. Taite Kitchel (200 fly and 200 IM) and Trent Pellini (100 and 200 breast) both posted team benchmarks this year in a pair of events.
The Purdue men had three of the top five finishers in both freestyle sprints and 1-meter diving. Nikola Acin and Nikola Bjelajac were part of both trios in the sprints. James Boone posted a team season-best time (45.12) as the runner-up in the 100. Greg Duncan led the way on 1-meter, posting a Purdue season-best score of 366.30 in his Purdue debut.
More team season bests were registered by Jade Knueppel (23.40 in the 50 free), Tim Barth (1:49.69 in the 200 back) Johnson (1:50.27 in the 200 free) and McDowell (9:09.14 in the 1,000 free).
Selected Boilermakers will compete next weekend at the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The two-day all-star meet will be contested at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. Sessions are set for Saturday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. ET and Sunday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. Admission is free both days.
