WILMETTE, Ill. - Freshman Danielle du Toit put on a show to close out her first collegiate tournament, firing a final-round, five-under 67 to vault the Purdue women's golf team into an eighth-place finish at the Windy City Collegiate Classic. The Boilermakers shot six-over par, 294 over the final 18 holes to log the No. 7 team score of the day and pass No. 17 South Carolina.
The final-round score for the Boilermaker rookie is tied for the 12th-best 18-hole mark in program history and the third-best ever by a Purdue freshman, matching teammate Inez Wanamarta. The score was the best in the field Tuesday and vaulted her 30 spots on the leaderboard to a tie for 24th place. du Toit finished six-over par for the tournament and had the Boilermakers' No. 2 score for the event.
Junior Micaela Farah was the top Boilermaker finisher, tying for 13th place at two-over par 218 after 54 holes. She shot four-over 76 on the final day, dropping 10 straight pars to start the day and making one birdie on the back nine.
Senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri put together her best round of the tournament Tuesday, shooting even-par 72, including a one-under mark on the back nine. Freshman RuQing Guan wrapped up the team scoring with a seven-over 79, shooting one-over on the back nine.
No. 4 USC captured the team title, shooting even par for the tournament and besting ninth-ranked Arizona State by four strokes. Gabriela Ruffels closed out medalist honors for USC, finishing 10-under par with a final-round 71. The top-six teams all hold a spot in the latest WGCA Coaches Poll, while the Boilermakers finished ahead of the 17th-ranked Gamecocks and three other teams receiving votes.
Purdue returns to action Monday, heading to Illinois for the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah Country Club.
