WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Boilermakers swept all 12 events on both the men's and women's sides of Purdue swimming & diving's annual Indiana Intercollegiates meet Saturday at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.

The Purdue men and women each scored over 800 points to win handily in the team scoring. This year's all-Indiana field of visiting teams included Ball State, DePauw, Evansville, Manchester, the Indiana Wesleyan women and Wabash men.

The Purdue women had at least the top six finishers in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle. The Purdue men had at least the top five in 50 and 100 free.

Nikola Acin was one of five Purdue freshmen to win an individual event in their collegiate debuts. Acin won both the 50 free and 100 backstroke despite swimming in the first heat of each event. He was the only event winner that did not race in the final heat of an event. Acin also swam the leadoff leg on the victorious 200 free relay to close out the meet.

Ben Bramley (3-meter diving), Jade Knueppel (50 free), Maggie Merriman (1-meter diving) and Tessa Wrightson (100 back) also won events in their first collegiate meets.

Emily Bretscher, Joe Cifelli, Megan Johnson, Erik Juliusson and Nick McDowell joined Merriman as Boilermakers to win an event and finish as the runner-up in another. Bretscher, Cifelli and Merriman helped make sure the Purdue divers finished at least 1-2 in both springboard events. Johnson and Juliusson demonstrated their versatility. Johnson won the 200 individual medley and took second to Danielle Auckley in the 100 free. Juliusson was victorious in the 200 free and the runner-up behind Grant Lewis in the 100 breaststroke.

Lewis joined Acin as a multi-event winner, becoming the victor in the 100 butterfly after race winner Joe Young was disqualified for the second day in a row for an underwater violation. The officials ruled he again went farther than 15 yards underwater after a turn.

Nine of the Boilermakers' 20 individual event victories came from seniors. Alex Clarke (100 fly), Cady Farlow (100 breast), Emily Meckstroth (500 free) and Jackson Higgins (200 IM) joined their classmates Auckley, Cifelli, Juliusson and Lewis as event winners.

Freshman Nick Sherman won his heats of the 100 free and 100 breast, finishing among the top six overall in both events. Gabi Gomez-Treig (50 free), Jinq En Phee (50 free), Brady Robinson (200 IM) and Jackie Smailis (100 fly) were also heat winners.

The Boilermakers return to action Friday, Oct. 26 when they open their dual meet schedule with a co-ed competition at Notre Dame. The next home meet is a Nov. 2 triple dual vs. Tennessee and Wisconsin.
