OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -

No. 11-ranked California (-7; 273) and top-ranked Oklahoma State (-7; 273) were the only teams at even- or under-par through the first round.

UNLV (+3), Alabama (+4), Illinois (+5), South Carolina (+5)Texas A&M (+6), USC (+7), Indiana (+8), Stanford (+9), Baylor (+12), Florida State (+13), Purdue (+15) and Air Force (+28) round out the field.

BOILER NOTABLES
  • Purdue struggled on its first nine holes of the day (the back nine), shooting a combined 13-over par. Then after righting the ship on the first six holes of the front nine (even-par), Purdue played the last three holes a combined 8-over par (one birdie, seven bogeys, one double-bogey).
  • It marked just the fourth time since the start of last year (41 rounds) that Purdue failed to have a player shoot even-par or better.
  • Purdue did rank fourth in the field in birdies made (14) behind just California (18), USC (16) and Illinois (16).
