INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – Timmy Hildebrand garnered his 11th career top-20 finish and Purdue finished fifth at the season-opening Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm GC.
The Boilermakers placed tied for fifth with fellow Big Ten member Minnesota, posting a 12-over par 864 (282-294-288). Oklahoma (284-285-278) won the title at 5-under par 847 and was followed by Texas (291-278-281=850), Iowa (288-286-277=851) and Arkansas (288-291-280=859).
Hildebrand struggled on the final day, but used a birdie on the 18th hole to move into 11th place, posting a 54-hole total of 1-over par 214 (68-70-76), good for T-10th. Sophomore Joe Weiler was T-38 at 7-over par 220 (72-76-72), while Cole Bradley was T-44 at 8-over par 221 (71-79-71). Thomas Lewis placed T-49 at 9-over par 222 (71-76-75) while freshman Andrew Farraye was T-52 at 10-over par 223 (81-72-70). Farraye posted the team's best score by four shots over the final two rounds after a tough start over the first 18 holes yesterday.
HILDEBRAND FINISHES IN TOP 20
Despite a third-round struggle, Timmy Hildebrand wrapped up a strong tournament with a T-11th finish at 1-over par 214. It marked his 11th career top-20 showing and was just his fifth top-20 finish during the fall season.
FARRAYE FINISHES STRONG
Andrew Farraye posted his first career round of even-par or better in the final round with a 1-under par 70. After a first-round hiccup, Farraye played great golf from the No. 5 spot over the last two rounds, posting a 36-hole total of even-par 142 (72-70). He recorded seven birdies against seven bogeys with 22 pars over the final 36 holes.
LLOYD PERFORMS WELL AS AN INDIVIDUAL
Playing as an individual in the Gopher Invitational's sister tournament, the Pioneer Creek Collegiate, sophomore Matt Lloyd played well in his first career action. The San Jose, California, native finished sixth out of 82 players with a 2-under par 214 (73-69-72). He finished third in the field in par-4 scoring (-2) and was tied for fourth with 11 birdies. Lloyd was a USA Today high school All-American after winning the California state championship as a senior at Archbishop Mitty High School.

The elite tournament features 10 of the nation's top-25 teams, including No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 2-ranked Alabama and No. 4-ranked Texas A&M.

- Purdue's 282 in the opening round tied for the fourth-lowest opening-round total (by stroke) in tournament history and the third-lowest total since the tournament moved to Windsong Farm GC in 2013.
