INDEPENDENCE, Minn. –
 Timmy Hildebrand posted a 36-hole total of 4-under par 138 to help Purdue to fourth place after 36 holes at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm GC.
 
As a team, the Boilermakers led after round one after shooting a 2-under par 282, but slipped to a fourth-place tie after a 10-over par 294 in the second round. The Boilermakers, however, are just seven shots off the lead shared by No. 3-ranked Oklahoma and No. 10-ranked Texas, both at 1-over par 569. Iowa is in third place at 6-over par 574, followed by Purdue and Michigan State at 8-over par 576. San Diego State is sixth at 10-over par 578.
 
HILDEBRAND OFF TO BIG START 
Senior Timmy Hildebrand got off to a strong start to his final season at Purdue, posting a 36-hole total of 4-under par 138 (68-70), to sit in third place, just two shots behind Arkansas' William Buhl (-6) and one behind Oklahoma's Blaine Hale (-5). Hildebrand recorded seven birdies against three bogeys and was a combined 5-under par on the back nine during Sunday's action. The rounds were his 30th and 31st career rounds of even- or under-par and dating to last year, has posted three straight rounds of even-par or better, shooting a combined 8-under par over his last 54 holes. The opening-round 68 was his 10th career round in the 60s.


BOUNCEBACK ROUND BY FARRAYE
After a tough start in the first round by Andrew Farraye, the freshman from St. Augustine, Florida, bounced back with a 1-under par 72 in the second round. He opened the round with four birdies in his first eight holes, before coming back to the pack. Nonetheless, Farraye posted the second-best team score during the second round to aid in Purdue's team scoring.
 
PAR 5'S HURT THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue led the field during the first 36 holes in par-4 scoring (+10), but was near the bottom of the field in par-5 scoring (+9), a full 19 shots behind tournament leader Utah (-10). Purdue recorded just four birdies and one eagle on the three par-5s (30 holes) during the first 36 holes.
 
BOILER NOTABLES 
  • Purdue is ahead of three teams that garnered national attention in the first Golf Coaches Association of America top-25 poll, leading Arkansas (#17), New Mexico (RV) and San Diego State (RV) after 36 holes.
  • Hildebrand knocked 0.12 strokes off his career average through the first two rounds, lowering his average to 73.57 – a figure that moves him from ninth to sixth on the Purdue career stroke average list.
  • Purdue will be paired with Michigan State and San Diego State in Monday's final round, teeing off hole one from 9:05 to 9:45 a.m. ET.
