WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Andrew Bohm and Mike Kornacker teamed up for eight shutout innings of four-hit ball in their longest outings of the season, leading Purdue baseball to an 8-1 victory vs. Chicago State in the opener of a nine-game homestand at Alexander Field.
The Boilermakers (20-16) won their fourth straight game, but just their third in eight home dates this season. Nick Dalesandro and Alec Olund both recorded three hits and an RBI. Evan Warden delivered a three-run double in the seventh inning, clearing the bases to blow it open.
Bohm (1-0) retired the first 12 batters of the game and 15 of the 17 he faced in his first collegiate start. The five innings he pitched represented the redshirt-freshman's longest outing since having Tommy John Surgery in the spring of 2016 as a high school senior. He did not issue a walk. Kornacker faced only 11 batters through three innings of two-hit relief in his first appearance since March 18. They teamed up to retire 19 of CSU's first 21 batters.

Harry Shipley (single, HBP, 2 walks) and Dalesandro (3-for-4, walk) both reached base safely four times to extend their streaks. Shipley has been on base safely in 14 straight games, one shy of his career high. Dalesandro has reached safely in 11 consecutive games.
Jacson McGowan drove in the game's first run with a two-out single in the first inning, recording his team-leading 43rd RBI. He also walked and scored twice, reaching base safely at least twice for the seventh consecutive game. He has a .588 on-base percentage during that stretch.
Bohm struck out four of the first eight batters he faced. His fifth and final strikeout came with runners on the corners and out out in the fifth inning after ground ball caromed off the second base bag and went for a hit. With two down in the frame, Chicago State (7-30) put the runner at first in motion. The Boilermakers pitched out, but Daulton Ryans still made solid contact. The line drive was hit at the second base bag and Shipley caught it on his way to cover for the steal attempt.

Purdue's leadoff man reached base safely in five of the first seven innings. But it took two-out hits to drive in the first two runs. Shipley and Warden both scored on Dalesandro's RBI single in the bottom of the second, Shipley coming around from first base after the center fielder overran the ball.
Olund scored from first base when Warden doubled into the right center gap with one out in the seventh inning. After Warden stole third, Tyler Powers hit a fly ball into short left center. The throw home hit Warden in the back as he approached home plate on the tag up.
The Boilermakers scored at least four runs in an inning for the third time in the last four games. Purdue has managed to score three times on one play in a bases-loaded opportunity in all three big innings.
The homestand continues Wednesday with a special non-conference matchup against rival Indiana. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be televised live on ESPNU.
