WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue (11-31, 3-8 B1G) dropped the first two games of its series against Nebraska (30-14, 8-5 B1G) 8-7 in eight innings and 10-1 in five frames. The Boilermakers belted four home runs on the day but were unable to keep the Cornhusker bats contained.
Game one was back-and-forth throughout the duration of the contest with three lead changes and two tied scores. Alexa Binckes, Lexi Huffman and Emily Kenny all registered home runs in the contest, combining for six of Purdue's seven runs. Altogether, the Boilermakers tallied nine hits with Mallory Baker and Morgan Cavinder earning two hits each. Gianna Lopez had one of the best relief outings of her freshman season, retiring each of the six batters she faced.
Cavinder drove in Purdue's lone run of game two, giving her two RBI on three hits in the doubleheader. Stephanie Ramsey also singled in game two while Jenny Behan went 2-for-3, giving her a team-best three hits on the day in five at-bats with two walks.
Behan extended her hitting streak to eight games in which she has 11 hits with a .478 batting average. She lifts her average against conference opponents to .406 with a .781 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage in her first season in the Big Ten.
Purdue concludes its series with the Cornhuskers on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
