April 10, 2018 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The anticipation is building for another entertaining evening.
The sixth-annual Golden Pete Awards show is Monday, April 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET at Holloway Gymnasium.
In addition to presenting traditional honors like the Big Ten Medal of Honor, Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award, Varsity Walk Award, Wooden Leadership Institute Certificate of Achievement and BLAST Certificate of Achievement, Golden Petes will be presented in the following nine categories (with the finalists for each award listed):
Male Breakout of the Year: Curt Eckstein, cross country; Skyler Hunter, baseball; Dylan Lydy, wrestling; Waseem Williams, track & field
Female Breakout of the Year: Mallory Baker, softball; Emily Bretscher, diving; Karissa McLaughlin, basketball; Jahneya Mitchell, track & field
Coach of the Year: Jeff Brohm, football; Lonnie Greene, track & field; Matt Painter, men's basketball; Mark Wasikowski, baseball
Male Individual Performance, Single Event: Carsen Edwards, basketball, scored 40 points at Illinois; Steele Johnson, diving, at NCAA Championships (3-meter national title, 1-meter national runner-up and honorable mention All-American on platform); Elijah Sindelar, football, 396 passing yards and four touchdowns in Foster Farms Bowl victory; Waseem Williams, track & field, 60-meter dash title at Big Ten Indoor Championships
Female Individual Performance, Single Event: Devynne Charlton, track & field, at Big Ten Outdoor Championships (won 100-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay); Jahneya Mitchell, track & field, at Big Ten Indoor Championships (won 600 meters and 4x400-meter relay); Brionna Thomas, track & field, at NCAA Indoor Championships (national runner-up as part of 4x400-meter relay and fifth in 400 meters); Maddy Williams, soccer, tallied both goals in 2-2 tie at No. 9 Penn State

The Big Ten Medal of Honor is the conference's most exclusive award. It was the first of its kind in intercollegiate athletics to recognize academic and athletic excellence and is awarded to one male and female student-athlete from the graduating class of each member institution.
Other highlights will include photos of the year and the top 10 plays.

The Golden Pete Awards show also serves as a senior sendoff to Purdue student-athletes and those students who are involved in behind-the-scenes roles.
