April 3, 2018 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 11th-annual Purdue Challenge 5K run/walk that benefits the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research is April 14.
The race, which is open to the public, will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET at the north end of Ross-Ade Stadium and ends in the south end zone of the football field. Registration is $30. Participants may register online or in person at the north end of Ross-Ade from 4 to 6:30 p.m. April 13 or from 7 to 8 a.m. the day of the race. Participants also may opt to "Sleep-in for The Challenge," or be a team member and create a personalized fundraising page without running in the race.

The Challenge attracts an average of more than 800 participants every year. More than 1,100 already are registered this year. Since 2008, the event has raised more than $715,000 toward cancer research and affords the opportunity to present Purdue researchers with a grant that allows them to make an impact through innovation and discovery.
This year's award winners are professors Graham Cooks, David Thompson and Tim Bentley for their research on brain cancer. For a list of projects that have received The Challenge grant, click here.
This year marks the first time the race route will finish on the field at Ross-Ade. Registration includes a T-shirt, pizza from Arni's and a beer for participants ages 21 and above.
The honorary emcee will be Purdue head football coach Jeff Brohm, who will open the race. Boilermaker legend Leroy Keyes will present the Cuonzo Martin Challenge Award, honoring the former men's basketball player and assistant coach and cancer survivor. The honor will go to a student organization with the most donations. The Community Challenge Award also will be given to any group not classified as student, faculty or staff with the highest donation total. The Leroy Keyes Faculty/Staff Challenge award will be presented to a faculty/staff team. The top individual fundraiser also will win a prize package from local businesses and a miniature Hammer Down Cancer helmet.
