March 21, 2018 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference announced the 2018 Winter All-Academic Teams on Wednesday, naming 62 Purdue student-athletes to the list. The list included a variety of NCAA qualifiers and Big Ten champions from five Boilermaker squads. The winter list, combined with the 60 honorees from the fall, brings Purdue's total to 122 for 2017-18.
The women's swimming & diving program led the winter sports with 27 Academic All-Big Ten picks, while the men's swimming & diving squad featured 18 award winners. Wrestling added eight from its squad to the list, men's basketball had five students recognized and women's basketball had four.
Individual standouts of note on Purdue's list include All-Americans Lexi Vincent, Kaersten Meitz and Jinq En Phee; NCAA qualifiers Marat Amaltdinov, Joe Cifelli, Steele Johnson, Brandon Loschiavo, Taite Kitchel, Emily Meaney, Morgan Meixner, Samm Reese, Nate Limmex, Dylan Lydy, Jacob Morrissey, Ben Thornton and Luke Welch; as well as second team All-Big Ten selections Andreona Keys and Dominique Oden.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
