PULLMAN, Wash. - The 2018 Purdue women's tennis team was swept for the first time Saturday, falling 7-0 to Washington State inside the Hollingberry Fieldhouse. The loss comes one day shy of a year since the program was last shutout in seven by Virginia Tech at home. In that time, the team also fell 4-0 to No. 5 Ohio State on the road and 5-0 to No. 34 Northwestern in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Additionally, in the team's first road dual of the spring season, sophomores Rafaella Baquerizo and Caitlin Calkins both lost their first singles matches. Each moved to 3-1 with straight-set losses to Barbora Michalkova on court four and Melisa Ates on court six, respectively. Ena Babic also saw her four-match win streak end to Guzal Yusupova on court two. The freshman is now 4-2 overall.

On court one, No. 86 Silvia Ambrosio fell to Michaela Bayerlova in straight sets, while Alex Sabe lost to No. 109 Tiffany Mylonas on court three.

Seira Shimizu was the only Boilermaker to force a third set, securing the second, but ultimately fell in the tiebreak on court five to Aneta Miksovska.

In doubles, Baquerizo and Shimizu were defeated by Mylonas and Yusupova on court two, while Calkins and partner Zala Dovnik fell to Bayerlova and Miksovska on court three. Ambrosio and Babic's court one match against Ates and Michalkova was left unfinished.
