WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Women's basketball toppled its fourth ranked opponent in as many tries this season Thursday with a 75-65 win at No. 10 and Big Ten leader Maryland.
Moreover, the Boilermakers (17-10, 8-5 B1G) defeated a top-10 team on the road for the first time since Jan. 14, 1990 -- a 66-63 victory at No. 10 Iowa. And Purdue became just the third team to beat Maryland since it joined the Big Ten in 2014-15 -- joining Michigan State and Ohio State.
Five players scored in double figures for the Boilermakers against the Terrapins.
On Feb. 12 against Indiana, sophomore forward Ae'Rianna Harris pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds. It was the most by a Boilermaker since Whitney Bays grabbed 19 vs. Ohio State on Jan. 25, 2015.
Purdue, which is tied for fifth place in the Big Ten standings, visits No. 16 Ohio State (21-6, 10-3) on Sunday.
Meitz Wins Silver at Big Tens
Senior Kaersten Meitz won silver in the 500 freestyle at the Big Ten Championships on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio. She posted a finals time of 4:37.15. Meitz is likely to be the top seed in the mile Saturday.
The Boilermakers had four of the top 11 finishers in 1-meter diving. Junior Morgan Meixner (6th) and senior Samm Reese (8th) were both championship finalists. Freshman Emily Bretscher and sophomore Emily Meaney finished 2-3 in the consolation final.
Freshman Maizie Seidl earned a return trip to Columbus this week after an impressive showing at the Ohio State Winter Invite on Feb. 10 and 11. She posted season-best times in all three of her freestyle events (50, 100 and 200) and earned Big Ten Swimmer and Freshman of the Week honors.
Purdue is in sixth place with 258 points.
Action continues today, with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. ET and finals at 6:30 p.m., and concludes tomorrow at the same times. Up-to-date information and results are available here.
The Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championships are Feb. 21 to 24 in Minneapolis.
Men's Basketball Home Sunday
No. 6 men's basketball (23-5, 12-3) plays host to Penn State (19-9, 9-6) on Sunday at Mackey Arena. Tipoff is 8 p.m. ET. Also back to be honored will be 2017 All-American Caleb Swanigan, now with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Senior forward Vincent Edwards and sophomore guard Carsen Edwards have been named to the late-season watch list for the Naismith Trophy, which is given to the nation's top player. The list of 30 will be trimmed to 10 semifinalists Feb. 28 and to four finalists in mid-March.

Men's Golf Wins Match Play Title
Men's golf won the Big Ten Match Play Championship for the first time in school history.
The Boilermakers shared the title with Michigan State after drawing with the Spartans 3-3 in the championship match Feb. 10 at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida.
It is the first Big Ten title of any sort for the men's golf program since 1981.
The Boilermakers finished with a match-play record of 3-0-1, beating Iowa (4.5-1.5), Michigan (4-2) and Minnesota (5-1).
Senior Brian Carlson, junior Jarle Volden and freshman Jason Hong each posted perfect 4-0 records during the tournament. Carlson was named Big Ten co-Golfer of the Week.
Purdue hosts the 26th-annual Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Grande Resort & Spa in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, from Feb. 18 to 20. The talent-laden field includes defending national champion Oklahoma.
Track & Field Honors, Rankings and Records
Women's track & field is ranked No. 15 in the country this week.
Sophomore Chloe Abbott earned Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week honors after running the fifth-fastest 400-meter dash nationally this season (personal-record 52.49 seconds) and being part of the fourth-fastest 4x400-meter relay team in the country at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Feb. 10. Abbott ran the anchor leg of the relay for the first time in her career and with seniors Carmiesha Cox, Jahneya Mitchell and Symone Black set the school record with a time of 3:31.63. That clocking ranks second in Big Ten indoor relay history.
Also at the Tyson Invitational, Cox set the 200-meter dash school record (23.46 seconds).
Sophomore Jaret Carpenter broke the 5,000-meter school record (13:49.32) at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 9. Carpenter's time ranks 14th nationally this season and is No. 2 among freshmen and sophomores.
A small contingent of Boilermakers compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Saturday. The Big Ten Championships are Feb. 23 and 24 in Geneva, Ohio.
Baseball Opens
Season 2 of the Mark Wasikowski era of Purdue baseball was slated to begin with a three-game weekend series at Baylor.
But the Boilermakers' flight from Chicago to Dallas was cancelled. Western Michigan also had its flight to Texas - to play Houston Baptist - cancelled. So, the Boilermakers and the Broncos managed to schedule a three-game series in Emerson, Georgia. They will play a double-header Saturday and a single game Sunday.
The Boilermakers return 19 letterwinners, including eight starters, from the 2017 team that boasted a program-best 19-win improvement, finishing with a 29-27 record. Purdue returned to the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since winning it in 2012.
Season tickets for the 24-game home schedule are on sale. The back half of the schedule is home heavy, with 13 of the Boilermakers' final 16 regular-season games to be played at Alexander Field.
Senior relief pitcher Ross Learnard has been named to the preseason watch list for the Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in the country. Learnard, senior starting pitcher Tanner Andrews and senior infielder Harry Shipley were selected to the Big Ten preseason honors list, a compilation of the top players in the conference.
Women's Tennis Home Twice
The youth-laden women's tennis team (4-2), with three freshmen, three sophomores and two juniors making up the roster, has a pair of home matches this weekend on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The Boilermakers take on DePaul (3-2) on Friday at 3 p.m. ET and Tulsa (8-2) on Sunday at 10 a.m.
The trio of freshmen have combined to post an 11-4 singles record: Ena Babic (4-1), Zala Dovnik (3-2) and Seira Shimizu (4-1).

Painter Advances to Round 3 of Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge
Head men's basketball coach Matt Painter has advanced to Round 3 of the Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge to raise money for the Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund.
Sixteen coaches have moved on in the 10-week fan-vote challenge. Infiniti will make a $100,000 contribution to the winning coach's designated charity, with its total contribution exceeding $300,000.
Boilermakers everywhere are encouraged to vote every day.
Painter has finished in the top four each of the previous seven years, helping raise more than $200,000 for the Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund. In 2015, he raised $100,000 as Purdue fans stuffed the online polls to win the challenge.
The Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund is a West Lafayette-based organization whose mission is to fund research to fight Niemann-Pick Type C Disease (NPC). The fund was set up by a family with three children impacted by NPC, and it has financed more than $300,000 in research at Purdue since its inception in 2008.
