TEMPE, Ariz. - Purdue (1-4) couldn't hold off the bats of Fresno State (3-2) long enough as the Bulldogs scored eight runs in the final three innings to seal a six-inning 13-4 victory. Fresno State's defense seemed to play its best when the pressure was on as it held the Boilermakers to one hit in 14 chances with runners on base.
Lexi Huffman, Jenny Behan and Stephanie Ramsey provided the offense for Purdue as they each went deep in the second inning. Huffman led off with a home run while Behan and Ramsey went back-to-back later in the inning. Behan drove in Emily Kenny who had doubled in her at-bat, and Ramsey earned the first home run of her collegiate career. Ryleigh Scott also logged a hit and stole a base in the two-spot for the Boilermakers.
Giana Lopez and Maddie Damon held the Bulldogs scoreless in their brief stints of relief. The duo each threw two-thirds of an inning with Lopez earning her first career strikeout.
Purdue shifts its focus to Duke and Virginia Tech in next weekend's Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Boilermakers travel to Durham, North Carolina, for its first game against the Hokies Friday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
