COLUMBUS, Ohio - Event victories for Alex Ford and Maizie Seidl plus a top-10 time in program history by Cassidy Sampson highlighted the Ohio State Winter Invite for the 11 members of Purdue women's swimming that raced.
Ford won the 200 butterfly (2:03.31) in her final collegiate race. Seidl was victorious in the 200 freestyle (1:47.87). Sampson took third in the A final of the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.96, which moved her into eighth place in program history. It was also an NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut). Seidl posted B cuts in both the 100 (49.87) and 200 free.
The Boilermakers earned 15 second swims in A finals at the two-day invitational meet. Seidl was Purdue's top finisher in the 50, 100 and 200 free as an A finalist in all three events. She added a runner-up finish in the 100 to her victory in the 200. The freshman posted a Purdue season-best time in the 100 that also ranked 14th in program history. Her time in the 200 free was second fastest for the Boilermakers this season and 11th in the record book.
Rachel Ho (200 IM) and Anna Giesler (200 free) won B finals for Purdue.
Sampson added a runner-up finish in the A final of the 200 back to her career-best swim in the 100 back. Her time in the 100 back was the second fastest for the Boilermakers this season.
Brenna Morgan (100 free, 50.87) and Paige Miller (1650 free, 17:06.16) both posted season-best times that ranked among the top five on the team in 2017-18. Seidl's times in the 50, 100 and 200 free were also top fives for Purdue this season.
Sampson qualified for the A final of the 50 free to join Seidl as a three-time A finalists at the meet. Miller was third in the mile, Ford took fourth in the A final of the 100 fly and Cally Sampson finished fourth in the A final of the 100 back.
The Boilermakers return to Columbus this week for the Big Ten Championships, which begin with Wednesday's opening-night relays and continue through Saturday. Video webcasts will be available on BTN2Go.
