TEMPE, Ariz. - Purdue (0-2) dropped its first two contests of the 2018 season against No. 19 Arizona State (2-1) and San Jose State (1-1). The Boilermakers lost 9-1 to the Sun Devils and 11-1 to San Jose State.
Alexa Binckes finished the day 2-for-4 with a solo home run that tied the game at one against Arizona State. Ryleigh Scott registered her first collegiate hit with a leadoff infield single to begin the ASU matchup. Halle Hixenbaugh also registered her first hit in a Purdue uniform when she roped a double to right center and later scored on a single up the middle by Stephanie Ramsey against San Jose State.
Maddie Damon was the only pitcher for Purdue who was not tagged for a run as the pitching staff struggled, allowing 20 runs on 20 hits and 14 walks. Kaitlynn Moody was solid through the first four innings against ASU but four-run fifth and sixth innings secured the six-inning win for Arizona State. Moody allowed six of the nine runs scored.
The Boilermakers are back in action Saturday, Feb. 10, with games against Western Michigan and South Dakota at 4:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. ET.
