The third period was all Lydy in a 6-4 upset of second-seeded Mikey Labriola of Nebraska (unattached) in the 174-pound quarterfinals. Trailing 3-1 at the start of the third period, Lydy escaped and then took Labriola down at the 51-second mark to go ahead 4-3. Labriola escaped evened it at 4-4 and seventh-seeded Boilermaker sealed the deal with another takedown with just six seconds remaining.
Lydy also had late heroics in his match prior to the quarterfinals. A takedown with five ticks left in sudden victory earned him a 4-2 victory over Indiana's 10th-seeded Devin Skatzka.
The redshirt sophomore hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, takes an 18-7 record into a semifinal battle with No. 3 David Kocer of South Dakota State.
Limmex did not wrestle on paper. The unseeded redshirt sophomore upset the Nos. 10, 7 and 15 and outscored them 17-3 on his way to clinching a spot in the 141-pound semifinals. In the quarterfinals, he disposed of No. 15 Pat D'Arcy of Princeton 2-1 on a second period escape and 1:56 worth of riding time. Limmex took Cole Martin of Wisconsin down four times, blanking the seventh-seeded Badger 11-0 in the championship third round for his third shutout of the season.
Armed with a 14-7 record, the Boilermaker is set to square off with Indiana's third-seeded Cole Weaver in the semifinals.
Five other Purdue grapplers advanced into the quarterfinals, but were unable to come out on the winning end of their bouts. The 125-pound duo of sixth-seeded Luke Welch and Devin Schroder, Jacob Morrissey (165), No. 8 Christian Brunner (197) and No. 9 Shawn Streck (285) will need to win their blood round match in order to earn hardware.
