WINDERMERE, Fla. ââ'¬" Playing in one of college golf's biggest events, the Purdue men's golf team posted the seventh-best score of the day but fell two spots to ninth after 36 holes at the Tavistock Invitational held at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
The Boilermakers totaled a 4-over par 292, just seven shots behind the day's best round shot by Florida, but slipped two spots to ninth with a 7-over par 583 (291-292) after 36 holes. The Boilermakers are just five shots out of fourth place entering tomorrow's final round.
Illinois continues to lead at 11-under par 565. Florida is just two shots back at 9-under par 567 and is followed by California (-2), Vanderbilt (+2), Auburn (+3), North Florida (+5), LSU (+6), Texas Tech (+6) and then Purdue (+7). UCF is 10th at 15-over par 591.
The field features 11 of the nation's top-50 teams and five more teams ranked in the top 100. In all, 16 of the 17 teams in the field are ranked in the nation's top 100.
Freshman Cole Bradley led the Boilermakers in round two with a 2-under par 70, for a 36-hole total of 3-over par 147 (77-70). Bradley was 1-over par through six holes, but played his final 11 holes in 3-under par with three birdies and no bogeys for his third career round of par or better. He is tied for 34th.
Brian Carlson and Timmy Hildebrand are tied for 24th at 1-over par 145 with identical rounds of 72 and 73. Carlson started his round with a birdie but then bogeyed his next four holes to fall to 3-over par for his round through five holes. However, he worked his way back to even-par before a bogey on the 18th hole dropped him over par during his round.
Hildebrand recorded 15 pars, one birdie and two bogeys during his consistent round.
Freshman Joe Weiler is tied for 47th at 5-over par 149 (73-76). Weiler was 1-over par through 13 holes, but bogeyed three of his last five holes to fall back.
Freshman Jason Hong is tied for 77th at 10-over par 154 (74-80).
Purdue will tee off round three at 8 a.m. ET, on Tuesday and will be paired with LSU and Texas Tech.
