WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's swimming & diving won 11 events, including both relays, in a home-opening dual meet victory vs. South Carolina on Thursday at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
Kaersten Meitz and Taite Kitchel teamed up to account for five of the Purdue's nine victories in the individual events. Meitz swept the 200, 500 and 1,000 free, winning the 1,000 and 200 in back-to-back events. Kitchel swept the butterfly events and nearly won the 100 fly and 200 individual medley back-to-back for the second week in a row. She finished to second South Carolina All-American Emma Barksdale in the 200 IM.
Meitz's 1,000 free time of 9:43.68 stands as the best in the nation so far this season. Meitz, Emily Meckstroth and Emily Converse teamed up for a 1-2-3 finish in the event. The Purdue women also had the top two finishers in the 100, 200 and 500 free as well as both butterfly events.

Megan Johnson won the 100 free, finished second to Meitz in the 200 and contributed to the victorious 400 free relay. She had the honor of selecting the Boilermaker Award recipient and opted to recognize Jinq En Phee, who was victorious in the 100 breast with a B Cut time of 1:02.44. She also finished second in the 200 breast and contributed to the victorious 200 medley relay.
Jackie Smailis was victorious in the 100 back and contributed to both relay winners. Emily Meaney was victorious in 3-meter diving for her first event win of the young season.
The Boilermakers are back in action Friday, Oct. 27 for a 5 p.m. home meet vs. Notre Dame.
