OXFORD, Ohio - Taite Kitchel led the way with three event wins as Purdue women's swimming & diving was victorious in its season-opening dual at Miami (Ohio) on Friday.
Kitchel won the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley back-to-back as the final two individual events of the meet. She also won the 200 fly and swam the butterfly leg on the victorious 200 medley relay.
Kaersten Meitz won a pair of individual events. She swept the 200 and 500 freestyle, winning the 500 by 13 seconds. The senior was also the runner-up in the 50 free.
Danielle Auckley was victorious in the 100 free and also contributed to both relay winners for the women. Jackie Smailis swam the leadoff leg on both relay winners.
Kitchel led the way in a 1-2-3 finish for the Boilermakers in the 200 fly. Purdue also had the top two finishers in the 100 breast, 100 fly and 200 free. Emmy Rawson took second to Kitchel in both butterfly events.
Cady Farlow (200 breast) joined Meitz as Boilermakers to win an event and finish as the runner-up in another.
Freshman Megan Johnson was the recipient of the Boilermaker Award after contributing to the victorious 400 free relay as well as finishing in the top three of both the 100 and 200 free.
Purdue competes again Thursday when it hosts South Carolina for the home opener at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. The co-ed dual begins at 6 p.m. ET.
