BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - No. 19 Purdue (13-2, 3-1 B1G) defeated Indiana (11-5, 0-4 B1G) in three sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-19) to claim the Monon Spike for the 10th straight year and earn its second sweep of the Hoosiers in four days. The victory over IU is Purdue's 11th consecutive victory over its instate rival and its 11th sweep of the season.
Danielle Cuttino and Sherridan Atkinson led the Boilermakers with double-digit kill efforts and hitting percentages north of .400 to fuel Purdue's .366 hitting percentage on the night. Cuttino registered 14 kills on 28 swings with just one error to hit .464 while Atkinson tallied 11 kills with three errors on 19 attempts to earn a .421 hitting percentage. Azariah Stahl was just two kills shy of a double-double with 11 digs, two aces and a .250 hitting percentage. After one of the best offensive performances in program history against Indiana on Wednesday night, Blake Mohler hit .375 with five kills to go along with six blocks. Purdue out-blocked IU 8-1 in the contest.
Ashley Evans dished out 34 assists and also tallied three kills and an ace. Brooke Peters earned her 10th-consecutive match with 10 digs or more as she earned 12 on the night. The Boilermakers' first-ball contact was steady throughout the contest as they sided out successfully 76 percent of the time, including a perfect 100 percent (12-12) in the second set. Purdue hit .276 and .290 in the first two sets but closed out the contest with 14 of its 41 kills in the third set with a .591 hitting percentage.
Purdue continues a four-match stretch of road contests with Illinois and Northwestern in the coming week. The Boilermakers face the Fighting Illini on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET prior to round two with the Wildcats on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. ET.
