WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue is the lone Big Ten Conference school and one of just 14 nationally to have both its men's and women's golf teams in the NCAA Championships.
The men's team finished fifth at the West Lafayette Regional on May 17, securing an automatic bid. Purdue will make its 29th appearance in the NCAA Championships, the second-most among Big Ten schools (Ohio State - 46), and third under fourth-year head coach Rob Bradley.
Purdue's top finisher was sophomore Jarle Volden, who tied for eighth place with a 2-over par 218 (74-68-76). It marked his first career top-10 finish.
The NCAA Championships begin May 26 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Thirty teams will play 54 holes before the top 15 teams play a fourth round May 29. From there, the top eight teams advance to match play May 30 and 31to determine the national champion.
Meanwhile, the women's team begins NCAA Championships play today at Rich Harvest Farms.
The Boilermakers are paired with Big Ten foes Michigan and Ohio State and teed off at 8:30 a.m. ET. Purdue is making it 17th appearance in the NCAA Championships, including 16 in the last 18 years.
Twenty-four teams will play 54 holes of stroke play, then the top 15 teams (along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team) will play a fourth round May 22 and finally the top eight squads will determine the national champion in match play May 23 and 24.
Women's Outdoor Track & Field B1G Champs
Women's outdoor track & field won the Big Ten championship and did so in convincing fashion.
The Boilermakers amassed 133 points to top runner-up Minnesota with 105.5 points. Host Penn State finished third with 101 points.
En route to the third outdoor title in program history - the first since 1999 - Purdue had five conference champions:
Devynne Charlton: 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles
Symone Black: 400-meter hurdles
Savannah Carson: long jump
4x100-meter relay: Charlton, Carmiesha Cox, Savannah Roberson and Carson
Charlton was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships unanimously, repeating the honor she earned indoors, while Lonnie Greene was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, also unanimously.
The men's team, which finished in 10th place with 41 points, had one Big Ten champion - redshirt senior Anaquan Peterson in the triple jump.
Next up for the Boilermakers is the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, which will take place May 25 to 27 in Lexington, Kentucky. Purdue has 34 entries (20 women and 14 men).
Baseball Eyes B1G Tournament Berth
With two-plus games remaining - today at Minnesota - the baseball team (27-24, 10-11 B1G) has its eyes set of the Big Ten Tournament.
Last night, in the opener of a three-game series with the first-place Golden Gophers (32-17, 14-6), the Boilermakers led 5-2 when the game was suspended in the middle of the seventh inning due to a partial power outage.
The two teams will finish that game beginning at 1 p.m. ET and then play a doubleheader with rain in the forecast for tomorrow. All told, Purdue and Minnesota will play at least 20 and a half innings today.
The top eight finishers in the conference standings make the tournament, and Purdue presently is in eighth place, a half-game behind Northwestern (10-11) and a half-game ahead of Michigan State (10-12).
The double-elimination Big Ten Tournament will be played May 24 to 28 in Bloomington, Indiana.
Men's Tennis Earns Regional Honors
Men's tennis received four major regional honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Senior Ricky Medinilla and freshman Stephan Koenigsfest were recognized as the Ohio Valley Region Senior Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, while Pawel Gajdzik and Francisco Stuardo Vargas were recognized as the Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Boilermakers (20-13, 7-4 B1G) enjoyed their most successful season since 1987, capped by an appearance at the NCAA Championships.
Seven Boilermakers at Diving World Championships Trials
Seven Purdue divers are scheduled to compete this weekend at USA Diving's World Championships Individual Trials in Indianapolis.
The Boilermakers will be represented by Joe Cifelli, Steele Johnson, Brandon Loschiavo, Morgan Meixner, Samm Reese, Max Showalter and Lexi Vincent. Each of the seven is focusing on one event: Cifelli, Johnson Meixner and Reese on 3-meter; Loschiavo, Showalter and Vincent on 10-meter.
Action at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI begins at 10 a.m. ET today and continues through Sunday afternoon. The top two finishers in each event earn World Championships berths. Scores are cumulative over the three rounds of competition at the Trials. The top 18 divers advance to the semifinals and the top 12 move on to the finals.
Additionally, Emily Meaney is scheduled to compete on 10-meter at the Australian Open Championships and World Championship Selection Trials from May 23 to 26 in Sydney.

Softball sophomore first baseman Mallory Baker was named second team All-Midwest Region. She batted .351 with 10 doubles, one triple, one home run and 28 RBI and was 13-for-13 in stolen-base attempts ... Senior center Isaac Haas has withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft and will return to Purdue for the 2017-18 season ... Junior David Blough has been selected to serve as a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy from June 22 to 25 at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
