WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The NCAA announced today that for the sixth straight year all 18 Purdue teams are above the 930 Academic Progress Rate (APR) cutoff.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.
Thirteen squads maintained or improved their multi-year rate from a year ago: women’s basketball (remained 985), women’s cross country (992 vs. 988), football (971 vs. 968), women’s golf (989 vs. 967), soccer (remained 989) softball (993 vs. 987), men’s swimming & diving (984 vs. 966), women’s swimming & diving (remained 989), men’s tennis (1,000 vs. 984), women’s tennis (remained 1,000), men’s track & field (957 vs. 951), women’s track & field (979 vs. 977) and wrestling (975 vs. 973).
The overall department score was 981, which is equal to the record-high nationwide average.
Purdue’s football program is the only one nationally that has improved its multi-year rate every year the APR has been calculated, dating to 2004-05.
Eight Purdue teams had perfect 1,000 scores for the current year: women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s golf, soccer, softball, men’s swimming & diving, men’s tennis and women’s tennis.
Last week, women’s tennis received its third consecutive NCAA Public Recognition Award for posting a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent of its sport. Men’s tennis was recognized for the same achievement for the first time.
The APR measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes. The most-recent APR scores are multi-year rates - or a rolling four-year average - based on the scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
Meanwhile, the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of Purdue student-athletes has reached 85 percent. Overall, 90 percent of student-athletes completing his/her eligibility at Purdue graduate. Student-athletes who graduated in May of 2015 realized a 92 percent job-placement rate.
Purdue student-athletes regularly perform equal to or better than the student body.
