COLUMBUS, Ohio. - After defeating Penn State on Friday, the Purdue men's tennis team split its weekend away with a 6-1 loss to No. 2 Ohio State at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center.

Similar to last weekend's 1-1 mark between Michigan State and No. 18 Michigan, a true freshman earned the team its sole point against the ranked foe. Facing the No. 18 Wolverines, Stephan Koenigsfest notched his twelfth dual-match win on court four, but Sunday, Athell Bennett shined on court six. The Boilermaker defeated Martin Joyce 6-4, 6-3 in the second to last match off.

Leading up to that moment, Purdue surrendered the doubles point with losses on courts one and two, and fell on courts one, two, four and five in singles. Most notably, No. 16 Gergely Madarasz and Ricky Medinilla lost their second match in a row as a tandem, this time a 6-3 decision against No. 20 Herkko Pollanen and Mikael Torpegaard. The junior and senior also fell in singles 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to No. 1 Torpegaard and 6-0, 7-5 to No. 81 JJ Wolf, respectively.

Purdue returns home Friday for a 6 p.m. ET match against Iowa, and will then complete its home schedule Sunday against Nebraska at noon.
