University Park, Pa. - The Purdue men's tennis team earned its first road win of the season Friday, a 5-2 mark against Penn State at the Sarni Tennis Center.

Renan Hanayama and Benjamin Ugarte opened Purdue's lead with a 6-3 win over C. Antonopoulos and David Kohan on court two. The Boilermakers then secured the doubles point with a 7-5 win by Athell Bennett and Stephan Koenigsfest against Nika Dolidze and C. Lutschaunig on court three.

While No. 16 Gergely Madarasz and Ricky Medinilla dropped their court-one match, the junior and senior made it up in singles. At the number one position, No. 96 Madarasz defeated C. De La Bassetiere 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, and Medinilla bested Christian Lakoseljac 1-6, 7-6, 6-4 on court two.

Koenigsfest and Hanayama both dropped their matches against the Nittany Lions; entering the day the freshman and sophomore led the team in dual-match singles wins (12) and season singles wins (16), respectively. Madarasz is now tied for first with Koenigsfest.

To round out Purdue's lineup, Bennett and Ugarte both bounced back from Sunday's poor showing against No. 18 Michigan, winning in straight sets against Penn State. Bennett defeated Marc Collado 6-2, 6-1 on court six, and Ugarte toppled C. Antonopoulos 6-3, 7-5 on court three.

The Boilermakers remain on the road this weekend, facing No. 2 Ohio State on Sunday at noon ET. A win would mark the program's highest ranked opponent defeated.
