WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Women's golf begins play at the Big Ten Championships today at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio, near Cincinnati. No. 24/33 Purdue is one of 12 Big Ten teams ranked in the top 100 in the country.
Head coach Devon Brouse and the Boilermakers aim for their seventh Big Ten title and their first since 2013, while senior August Kim looks to defend her individual crown from last year. The Boilermakers are regarded as one of three front runners to contend for the team title alongside Northwestern and Ohio State. Kim looks to become the 10th player in conference history to win multiple conference championships and the eighth to do so consecutively.

Men's Tennis Looks to Improve Big Ten Seed
Men's tennis has the opportunity to improve its Big Ten Tournament seed with its final two regular-season matches.
The Boilermakers (17-11, 5-4 B1G), who currently would be the sixth seed, play at Minnesota (15-8, 4-5) today and at Wisconsin (15-5, 6-3) on Sunday. To see the complete Big Ten standings, click here.
Purdue, which is 13-1 at home this season, hosts the Big Ten Tournament from April 27 to 30. The top four seeds earn a first-round bye.
Leading the Boilermakers individually in conference play are freshmen Athell Bennett and Stephan Koenigsfest with six wins apiece. Those two and redshirt junior Gergely Madarasz have 15 overall victories each.
Excuse Me if You Have Heard This Before: Carson Honored by B1G
For the second time in three weeks and fourth time this season, redshirt junior Savannah Carson has been named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week.
At the Louisville Open on April 15, Carson broke her own school record with the nation's No. 2 long jump. First, she leapt 6.56 meters (21-feet, 6.25-inches) with a legal tailwind of 1.4 meters per second, and later she soared 6.66 meters (21-feet, 10.25-inches) with a legal tailwind of 2.0 meters per second.
Carson is just 2.5 inches shy of the national leader, Rougui Sow of South Carolina. She leads the Big Ten by 1-foot, 3-inches over the next best jumper this season and boasts the second-best mark in the history of the conference, behind only Iowa's Aisha James at 6.78 meters (22-feet, 3-inches) in 2003.
The Boilermakers have earned four of the 10 weekly conference awards for the outdoor season.
Both track & field teams host the Rankin/Poehlein Invitational this weekend. It is their lone home meet of the season, and 16 seniors will be honored at approximately 1:20 p.m. ET tomorrow.
The hammer throw gets things underway at 5 p.m. today at the Rankin Track & Field Complex, while the rest of the events are Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
Baseball Begins 10-Game Homestand
To date, the baseball team (19-18, 6-6 B1G) has played just seven of its 37 games at home.
But the Boilermakers, who are 3-4 at Alexander Field, begin a 10-game homestand tonight with a three-game weekend series against Illinois (15-19, 3-6). Games times are 6 p.m. ET today and tomorrow and 3 p.m. Sunday. After the Fighting Illini, Purdue plays host to Fort Wayne (April 26), Saint Louis (April 28 to 30) and Northwestern (May 5 to 7) before going back on the road.
Morrissette Signs with Mystics
Senior guard Ashley Morrissette has signed a rookie contract with the Washington Mystics of the WNBA and will attend their preseason training camp.
Morrissette will be the second Boilermaker to attend a WNBA preseason camp in as many years, following KK Houser's invitation to join the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016.
Morrissette looks to become the 12th Boilermaker to make a WNBA roster and the first since current assistant coach Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton (2005-09) played with the Mystics in 2012.
Morrissette was named first team All-Big Ten and was selected to the Big Ten All-Defensive team this past season.
Fall Sports in Spring
Soccer and volleyball wrap up their spring seasons this weekend.
Volleyball hosts at intrastate triple-header tomorrow at Holloway Gymnasium with Ball State at noon ET, Notre Dame at 1:15 p.m. and Indiana at 2:30 p.m.
Soccer takes on Valparaiso at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday at Folk Field.
'Play Unified' Event Sunday
Purdue will play host to its second-annual "Play Unified" event with the Special Olympics from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday on Cardinal Court.
The initiative will pair Boilermaker student-athletes and students from across campus with Special Olympics athletes for a 4-on-4 basketball tournament. Members of the basketball, football and swimming teams, as well as the cheer squad, will participate in the event.
Sophomore women's basketball player Abby Abel organized the event with the goal of permanently bringing the Unified Sports movement to the Purdue intramural and club sports community and ultimately to the rest of the Big Ten Conference.

Softball (17-29, 6-8 B1G) plays the first of two straight weekend conference series on the road at Northwestern (16-23, 3-9) today through Sunday … Women's tennis (6-14, 1-8 B1G), which is coming off its first Big Ten win at Wisconsin, wraps up the season playing at Penn State (5-13, 2-6) today and at Ohio State (23-2, 9-0) on Sunday … Katie Stumpp has been hired as assistant director for camps and compliance. She previously worked in the athletics department from 2012 to 2014 as facilities utilization manager … Former Purdue football player Kawann Short (2009-12) has signed a five-year contract to remain with the Carolina Panthers through the 2021 season. Short's 17 sacks over the last two seasons rank third among NFL defensive tackles … At least six former Purdue track & field/cross country runners completed the 2017 Boston Marathon: Cale Allen, Blair Doney, Kelly Fields, Brett Klosterhoff, Kayla (McCurdy) Klosterhoff and Jake Palmer … Former Purdue catcher Kevin Plawecki (2010-12) has been called up to the major leagues by the New York Mets.
