WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team dropped its first home match of the season Sunday, losing 6-1 to No. 18 Michigan outside at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers had previously defended their court for 12 straight matches, dating back to April 22, 2016, but the Wolverines' top-25 lineup proved to be too much for Purdue.

After surrendering the doubles point with losses on courts one and three, Athell Bennett, Renan Hanayama and Benjamin Ugarte all fell in the first three matches off in singles, clinching the win for Michigan.

Stephan Koenigsfest, who defeated Runhao Hua 6-3, 6-4 just after the decision, secured the team's only point of the day. While both Gergely Madarasz and Ricky Medinilla won their first set and led in the second, the junior and senior stumbled in the super-breaker on courts one and two, respectively.

With his win, the early enrollee from La Paz, Bolivia, now leads the team with 12 dual-match singles victories -- a mark he can extend Friday at Penn State. First serve against the Nittany Lions is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
