CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Purdue baseball hit a trio of two-run homers, but Southeast Missouri State scored in every inning but one to salvage the series finale 17-7 Sunday.

The Boilermakers (5-5) had surrendered runs in only two of the 18 innings while winning the first two games of the series. Sunday, the Redhawks (6-4) put together a pair of big innings and scored in seven of the eight frames in which they batted.

Nick Dalesandro and John LeGare homered for the second day in a row. Jacson McGowan also hit his second home run of the season. Purdue hit seven homers in the series. With the wind blowing out to right field again Sunday, there were five home runs in the game. SEMO's Brian Lees connected for a grand slam in a six-run fourth inning. Tristen Gagan homered for the second day in a row for the Redhawks.

Purdue used seven pitchers in the game, issuing a combined 10 walks. Nick Wojtysiak was only Boilermaker to post a zero, working a scoreless sixth inning. The Boilermakers were unable to retire either Dan Holst or Gagan. Both players had four hits, finishing the day a combined 8-for-9 with seven RBI and eight runs scored. Holst reached base safely six times and scored five times. Gagan drove in a run in four of his six plate appearances, finishing the day with five RBI.

Dalesandro and LeGare both drove in a run in all three games of the series. Dalesandro went deep to left field after Mike Madej doubled to begin the sixth inning. LeGare homered to right field with Evan Warden aboard in the seventh inning.

McGowan's two-run homer to right field in the fourth inning cut SEMO's lead to 5-3, but the home team answered with the six-run rally in the bottom of the frame.

Harry Shipley led off the game with a double, recording his third extra-base hit of the series. He scored on an RBI ground out from Dalesandro as Purdue scored in the first inning for the third day in a row and sixth time this season. But SEMO starter Justin Murphy retired 10 consecutive batters from the first through fourth innings. Murphy (2-0) limited Purdue to just three hits through the first five innings and did not issue a walk until his final frame. He was able to induce 11 ground ball outs to go with four strikeouts.

Madej and McGowan joined Dalesandro and LeGare as Boilermakers to hit safely in all three games of the series. Warden drew Purdue's lone walk of the day in the seventh inning to extend his reached base safely streak to 10 consecutive games.

With their victories Friday and Saturday, the Boilermakers won the series against the three-time defending Ohio Valley Conference champion. It was Purdue's first non-conference series win on the road since March 2013 at Evansville. Southeast Missouri had not been swept at home since May 2013 and was able to keep that streak alive, denying the Boilermakers their first three-game series sweep since May 2013.

Purdue has suffered three of its five losses this season on Sundays, getting outscored 44-12 in the process.

Up next for the Boilermakers is the eight-game spring break trip in California, which begins with a four-game set at Cal State Northridge. The series opener in suburban Los Angeles is Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
