WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference announced the 2017 Winter All-Academic Teams on Wednesday afternoon, naming 59 Purdue student-athletes to the list. The list included a variety of NCAA qualifiers and Big Ten Champions from five Boilermaker squads, most notably Academic All-American and National Player of the Year finalist Caleb Swanigan of the Purdue men's basketball team, and 2016 Olympic medalist Steele Johnson of the Boilermaker men's swimming & diving team.

The women's swimming & diving program led the winter sports with 22 Academic All-Big Ten pics, while the men's swimming & diving squad featured 18 award winners. Wrestling added nine students to the list, while men's and women's basketball had five picks each. Other individuals of note on the Purdue's list included Big Ten champion Marat Amaltdinov, 1,000-point scorer Bridget Perry, All-Americans Kaersten Meitz and Samm Reese and NCAA qualifier Jacob Morrissey.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
