SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Tanner Andrews struck out a career-high 10 over 7 2/3 innings of three-hit ball, leading Purdue baseball to its second shutout win of the season 3-0 at Santa Clara on Friday.
The Boilermakers (8-8) won their third straight to even their record at 3-3 on their eight-game spring break trip, which concludes with Saturday's 6 p.m. ET doubleheader.
Andrews' 10 strikeouts were the most by a Purdue pitcher since Lance Breedlove fanned 10 in a March 2012 win at Ohio State. Andrews has helped the Boilermakers compile a 4-1 record on Fridays this season. He has shut out Southeast Missouri State and Santa Clara (4-14) in two of his last three starts, working a combined 16 2/3 innings of seven-hit ball with 18 strikeouts in the two outings.
Andrews faced only 27 batters Friday after erasing base runners with a 1-4-3 double play and a pickoff at second base. He did not give up a hit while striking out four his first time through the SCU lineup. He recorded at least one K in every inning.
After Dalton Parker erased a leadoff single in the ninth inning by inducing a 4-6-3 double play, no more than four Santa Clara batters came to the plate in an inning Friday. Parker struck out SCU's leadoff man with a runner on third to end the eighth inning and preserve the shutout. The freshman earned his third save of the season.

Harry Shipley and Nick Dalesandro both delivered an RBI double in the third inning. Shipley reached base four times. He was one of four Boilermakers to draw a walk in the ninth inning as Purdue tacked on an insurance run. Dalesandro has hit safely in nine consecutive games and reached base safely in 12 straight. The sophomore is 13-for-25 with five doubles and eight RBI on the spring break trip, driving in a run in all but one game and eight of the nine games this month.
Evan Warden singled, walked and was hit by a pitch for the 13th time this season. He was also part of both double plays turned by the Boilermakers. The second baseman singled to open the third inning and scored from first base on Shipley's double to right center.
Skyler Hunter singled and walked in the win. He has reached base safely 11 times on the spring break trip. His leadoff walk in top of the ninth led to a run after a sac bunt, two more walks and a wild pitch.
Andrews worked 1-2-3 innings in the second and seventh, but also faced only three batters in fourth and fifth. He gave up an opposite-field double to Evan Haberle to begin the bottom of the fifth, but struck out the next two batters. Moments before he threw strike three to Austin Fisher to end the inning, he caught Haberle straying from the second base bag for Purdue's second pickoff of the series.
Andrews posted a game score of 80, becoming the first Boilermaker since 2012 with a pair of starts that produced game scores of 80-plus. Dating back to the final weekend of the 2016 season, Andrews has contributed to four shutout wins in his last seven appearances.
The four-game series concludes with Saturday's 6 p.m. ET doubleheader.
