CHICAGO - The Purdue men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins Friday, defeating Niagara 4-0 and 5-1 during the Boilermakers' second doubleheader of the season.
Gergely Madarasz led the team on court one inside the XS Tennis and Education Center, defeating Felipe Fuentes 6-4, 6-1 during the first match and 6-0, 6-1 during the second. Dominik Sochurek, Renan Hanayama and Lucas Omer Dages also secured victories in the singles-only competition to clinch the 4-0 win for the Boilermakers. Additionally, the three joined Madarasz with convincing wins in the second.
Stephan Koenigsfest, whose first match was left unfinished, added a fifth tally to the Boilermakers second-match total, besting Taylan Ozdemir 6-0, 6-1 on court two. Matt Bouggy's first match was also suspended at the clinch, but the senior dropped his second 6-0, 6-1 against Brent Boleslav.
Purdue flies out to California on Saturday to begin preparing for the BNP Paribas Collegiate Open Tennis Challenge beginning March 17.
