DePaul Box Score / IUPUI Box Score

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Another home contest, another clean sweep for the Purdue men's tennis team. In their third multiple-match day at the Schwartz Tennis Center, the Boilermakers picked up two shutout wins during Saturday's doubleheader verses DePaul and IUPUI - 4-0 and 5-0 respectively. The team opened its home schedule with a pair of tripleheaders, going 6-0 in those matches.

Beginning at 1 p.m. ET, the Boilermakers made easy work of the Blue Demons in doubles, earning several breaks on courts one and three. Athell Bennett and Stephan Koenigsfest were up 5-2 on court three, but down 40-30 in the game. The Boilermakers then rallied to win the next two points and clinched Purdue's first doubles victory.

On court one, Gergely Madarasz and Ricky Medinilla's match against Nathan de Veer and Alex Galoustian was also positioned at 5-2. DePaul then won four straight points on serve to move the score to 5-3. Purdue returned the favor, though, winning the match 6-3 without dropping a point in the last game.

Up 1-0 heading into singles, the Boilermakers continued to dominate play on their home court.

True freshman Stephan Koenigsfest earned the team's second point with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Boris Spanjaard on court 4. Koenigsfest only enrolled at Purdue two months ago, but has made an immediate impact on the team's performance.

Madarasz's pillar play also helped in sweeping the Blue Demons on Saturday; the junior was second off, defeating Galoustian in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.

One point away from the clinch, either Dominik Sochurek or Benjamin Ugarte could have sealed the victory for Purdue. At 5-3 40-40, Sochurek was unable to secure his match, however, dropping the final point with no-ad scoring in effect. Ugarte wasn't far behind, though. At 5-1 30-15, Tim Corwin returned a ball into the net, and the Boilermaker finished him off with a cross court winner to preserve the sweep.

That evening, Purdue returned to action against IUPUI. Again, the Boilermakers secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Madarasz and Medinilla defeated Bradley Luetschwager and Matt Moe 6-1 on the first, and Hanayama and Koenigsfest bested Steven Christie and Grant Weaver on the third. Both Hanayama and Medinilla earned their tandems' final point with a cross-court laser.

In singles, Ugarte breezed past David Beasley 6-0, 6-0 on court two in the first match off. Hanayama then moved Purdue's team score to 3-0 with his 6-1, 6-0 victory over Furhan Siddiki on court five.

Now one point away from the sweep, Sochurek redeemed himself by defeating Kyle Whittaker 6-0, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Boilermakers. Madarasz also picked up a win, finishing his match seconds later.

Through Saturday's action, Purdue has yet to give up a single team point to an opponent - a trend it hopes to continue Wednesday against Illinois. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET inside the Schwartz Tennis Center as the Boilermakers open Big Ten play.
