WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Four championship final qualifiers, including two in 3-meter diving, highlighted Friday at the Big Ten Championships for Purdue women's swimming & diving.
The Boilermakers had three student-athletes score in the 100 butterfly and 3-meter diving Friday. Purdue leapfrogged Northwestern into sixth place in the team scoring and is likely to finish in that spot when the meet draws to a close Saturday night.
Cady Farlow, Kaersten Meitz, Morgan Meixner and Samm Reese were the Boilermakers' championship final qualifiers Friday. Meixner, Reese and Emily Meaney teamed up to give Purdue three of the top 14 finishers in 3-meter diving, accounting for 58 team points, the Boilermakers' most in any individual event so far at Big Tens this season. Reese (334.30) took seventh and Meixner (330.65) eighth in the championship final after posting season-best scores in the prelims. Meaney also exceeded 300 points on 3-meter for the first time.
Meitz was an A finalist for the second day in a row, adding a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle to her third-place showing in the 500 free Thursday.
Alex Clarke (4:15.32) and Farlow (1:00.80) solidified their places in the program record book, accounting for the third-fastest times in Purdue history in the 400 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Farlow and Meixner both qualified for a championship final at Big Tens for the first time in their careers.
