WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 23rd-ranked men's basketball team was impressive in all facets during a convincing 80-59 victory over No. 25 Northwestern on Feb. 1.

The verdict left the Boilermakers and the Wildcats in a third-place tie in the Big Ten Conference standings with 7-3 conference records, two games behind front-runners Maryland and Wisconsin (9-1).

Purdue has started 7-3 in Big Ten play for three straight seasons.

Now, the Boilermakers (18-5) hit the road for a pair of games, first at No. 17 Maryland (20-2) at noon ET tomorrow, followed by a visit to Indiana (15-8, 5-5 B1G) on Feb. 9.

In the win over Northwestern, sophomore forward Caleb Swanigan recorded his school-record 19th double-double of the season with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Swanigan has pulled down 296 rebounds for the season, the ninth-most in Purdue annals. He leads the Big Ten 12.9 rebounds game and ranks second with 18.8 points per game. In five games against ranked teams, Swanigan is averaging 20.4 points and 11.6 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field, including 64.3 percent from three-point range. He is one of 10 finalists for the Karl Malone Award, which is given to the nation's top power forward.

For head coach Matt Painter, the game against the Wildcats was his 200th at Mackey Arena, and he boasts a 166-34 record (.830 winning percentage).

A Boilermaker will be part of a Super Bowl-winning team for the 14th time in the last 18 years Sunday when the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots square off in Super Bowl LI.

Former Purdue cornerback Ricardo Allen plays for Atlanta, while former defensive end Rob Ninkovich plays for New England. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised by FOX. Allen ranks tied for the second on the Falcons with two interceptions and is third with 90 tackles, while Ninkovich is tied for third on the Patriots with four sacks among 32 total tackles.
