MUNCIE, Ind. - The Purdue women's basketball team notched its fourth straight win Thursday on the road, upending Ball State at Worthen Arena 58-42. The Boilermakers held the Cardinals to 23.1 percent from the field (15-65) as they improved to 7-4 on the season and won their third game in the last five days.
The Boilermakers never trailed Thursday, racing out to an 8-2 lead behind triples from senior Ashley Morrissette and freshman Dominique Oden and never looking back. Purdue's defense kept the Cardinals on their heels all night, never allowing the host squad to get comfortable on the offensive end and stifling their top scorers. Senior Bridget Perry and junior Andreona Keys did an excellent job on Ball State leading scorer Moriah Monaco, holding her scoreless for 37 minutes before checking out of the game for good. Monaco posted eight points late in the evening, but was well under her season average of 16.3 points per game.
Oden led the Old Gold & Black in scoring for the second straight game, finishing with 15 points, while Morrissette and Keys joined her in double figures with 13 and 11, respectively. Morrissette set a new program record with a 3-pointer in her 23rd straight game, finishing with four triples on the evening, while Keys just missed a double-double, adding nine rebounds, six assists and two steals. Freshman Ae'Rianna Harris had her second straight impressive outing, posting her first career double-digit rebounding effort with 10 boards, to go with six points and a blocked shot.
Senior Renee Bennett was the lone Cardinal in double-figures, finishing with 16 points as Ball State dropped its first home contest of the year and fell to 5-3 overall.
The Boilermakers play their final game before finals Sunday, hosting North Carolina Central at 1 p.m. ET in Mackey Arena.
