PALO ALTO, Calif. --
Nate Limmex and Alex Griffin were double winners for Purdue in Burnham Pavilion on Friday. The Boilermakers defeated Boise State 20-17, but fell to No. 15 Stanford 23-14. They took six weights from the Broncos (0-1) and four against the Cardinal (2-1, 1-0 Pac-12), bringing their season record to 4-1.

A 10-3 decision from Limmex at 149 pounds, followed by a 12-3 major decision at 157 secured the dual victory against Boise State. The redshirt freshman took Dakota Wall down four times and racked up over 3:00 of riding time for the first dual victory of his career. Limmex's win gave Purdue a 16-14 lead in the dual that began at 174 pounds.

Griffin made the most of a second period where Bronco Fred Green took bottom, tilting for 10 back points. The major decision gave the Boilermakers a 20-14 advantage with the sixth bonus point victory of his redshirt senior campaign.

Purdue also got bonus points at 125 pounds with Ben Thornton's 15-7 major decision of Will Bardezbain. Thornton took the Boise State junior down five times and had two-point nearfall and reversal in the opening period.

Decisions were registered by Christian Brunner (197), Tyler Kral (285) and Kyle Ayersman (141) in the win over the Broncos.

The second dual of the night also began at 174 pounds. Stanford raced out to a 17-3 lead with bonus points in three of the first five bouts. Purdue's first win in the dual came in dramatic fashion. Tanner Lynde took Austin Flores down 24 seconds into sudden victory for a 3-1 win at 184 pounds. Each wrestler escaped to start the second and third periods for the only points in regulation.

The Cardinal captured the next three weights before the Boilermakers were able to get on the board again thanks to Luke Welch at 133. Welch, the team's takedown leader, put on a clinic with a 22-7 technical fall of Peter Russo in 5:19. Welch, a redshirt junior from Newburgh, Indiana, put eight takedowns on the board for his first tech fall of the season.

After a Stanford decision at 141, the Boilermaker middleweights posted back-to-back decisions. Limmex's takedown in the third period was the difference maker in a 3-1 win over Tommy Pawelski. The redshirt freshman who hails from Ada, Michigan, evened his record at 4-4 after the two wins.

The second period once again proved to key for Griffin. He rode Paul Fox out and broke open a 0-0 match in the final stanza with two escapes and a takedown. The 5-2 win brought his season mark to 8-2.

Saturday will be a travel day for Purdue, trekking to Fresno for CSU Bakersfield's Roadrunner Open on Sunday. The 11-team tournament will be held in Clovis North High School and is set for a 1 p.m. ET start.
